The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) is on a mission to redefine triathlon – and a key focus in 2024 was to reimagine the live broadcast and social product for its new 7-leg T100 Triathlon World Tour. Which saw the world’s best triathletes racing head-to-head over a new 100km distance (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run) and in iconic locations across a season-long schedule for the very first time. The ambition realised was to integrate live biometric data, to enable deeper layers of storytelling for the broadcast audience and greater engagement for fans following on second screen. This had not existed in triathlon before. In fact, this level of live biometric data integration had not existed in any sport before. Triathlon fans have always faced significant delays, waiting up to 35 minutes for basic positioning data. This lag has undermined real-time engagement and was diminishing the impact and quality of live broadcasts.
