New York City FC (NYCFC), the Major League Soccer (MLS) football club owned by City Football Group (CFG), has unveiled new renderings for its ‘soccer-specific’ stadium.

The 25,000-seat venue is set to debut during the 2027 MLS season in Queens’ Willets Point neighbourhood and will be New York’s first stadium designed for football.

The stadium, which has been privately financed at $780m (£622.5m) is only one aspect of the Willets Point Revitalization Plan. The project will also include the city’s largest 100% affordable housing development in 40 years, and over 40,000 square feet of public open space, a 650-seat school, a 250-key hotel, and ground-floor retail shops.

The announcement follows the recent news of a similar investment into the UK representative in CFG’s football portfolio – Manchester City. The club recently submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for the development of a ‘fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination’ at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, CFG looks set to be involved in further real estate investment. This time, in the US.

The renderings unveil the stadium’s cube entranceway that will welcome fans and community members alike. On match days, the cube will be illuminated with imagery that creates a dynamic experience while approaching NYCFC’s new home.

Serving as the home for the 2021 MLS Cup champions and 2022 Campeones Cup victors, the project also contains a headquarters for NYCFC’s foundation – City in the Community (CITC).

During the 2023 MLS season, NYCFC is splitting its time between two Major League Baseball venues – Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.
