On Sunday 26th March, the men’s England football team played Ukraine at Wembley to kick-start their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. Harry Kane extended his all-time top scorer record for England to 55, wearing his special Nike boots that were unveiled ahead of the match. This was soon followed by a world-class curl into the back of the net by Saka, cementing England’s win.
It was a special occasion to photograph this game, with the Tottenham striker bringing his golden touch to celebrate in front of a home crowd. I knew going into this game that Kane would be a major focus for me, and I was delighted to be able to capture his goal in front of a packed-out stadium. The celebrations themselves and the crowd’s reaction are often just as iconic as the goals – I see football photography as an opportunity to freeze these moments of joy and history for everyone to enjoy years from now. The game certainly got the crowd excited for the 2024 Euros.
