Last month’s Tour of Britain cycling race attracted over 1m spectators over the
course of the event’s seven stages of racing across the UK with the race being
increased to 8 days for 2008.

The TV audience was also impressive with BBC TV figures up to 750,000 on
Sunday 16th September, despite the coverage competing with the Belgian F1 Grand
Prix on ITV1.

The race started in Crystal Palace and continued its 500 mile journey through
Reading, Southampton, Yeovil, Taunton, Worcester, Wolverhampton, Rotherham,
Bradford, Liverpool, Kendal, Dumfries and Glasgow.

In addition to the TV coverage and spectator levels, there were 229,548
visits to the Tour website from August 21st to September 21st 2007 and 145,311
unique visitors.

Going forward, the Tour has confirmed that the race will take part over 8
days next year meaning that it will span two weekends for the first time in its
history.

Planning for the 2008 Tour of Britain is already well underway, with the
dates for next year confirmed by the UCI, and the racing route across the
country close to completion.

The Tour of Britain is also looking for title sponsors for its Leaders
jersey, Points jersey and Sprints jersey competitions.
