Speaking exclusively to Sportindustry.biz’s sibling website in South Africa, Bokkie Gerber, Editor of leading online sport website Sport24, has calmed fears over low uptake of tickets for the World Cup by stating his belief that the month-long tournament will attract ‘good crowds’.
In an in-depth interview with Sportindustry.co.za, Gerber commented that the low expectations on the performance of the South African national team would not impact the turnout for World Cup matches.
‘There will be good crowds at every match. The Soccer World Cup is much more than supporting a specific team. It’s happening. It’s lots of entertainment and a once in a lifetime event. You have to be there. Bafana Bafana is not all of the hype, it’s the World Cup itself. Surviving the knock-out stage will be fantastic for the fans, but the success of the tournament will not depend on Bafana.’
Gerber will add his substantial expertise to the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards Judging Panel – a role in which he will be responsible for helping to choose the inaugural Awards’ winners.
Presented in front of a star-studded audience of all the key stakeholders in South African sport, the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards will recognise and reward the best the South African sport business has to offer in categories covering marketing, PR, sponsorship, media, advertising and design.
