The Birmingham City Council has agreed to plans to build a new stand at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground, as well as a development with housing, offices, a hotel and shops.
Following Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s instance redevelopment was necessary in order to host England internationals, an approval of £30m revamp has been given over.
As well as the hotel and residential development, media reports have stated that the club wants to build a new pavilion and stand and increase the ground’s capacity to more than 25,000.
The plans require for 12 homes in the area to be demolished for the construction, causing objections by local residents who also claimed there would be an increase in noise and traffic.
The council had received 500 letters of objection to the scheme, mainly on the grounds of noise and extra traffic. A petition with 1,200 names on it was also handed in.
Despite complaints, though, the decision has come through in the Ground’s favour.
A final decision on the plans will be mad e by the government.
