ITV1’s coverage of England’s friendly international against Egypt at Wembley pulled in 7.7m viewers for the terrestrial channel.
The match, which saw England beat the African side 3-1, gave ITV an impressive 31.5% share of the peaktime audience, beating off BBC One drama series ‘Five Days’ which aired at 9-10pm and won a 22.8% share.
ITV currently holds football rights contracts with The FA for England home internationals and UEFA for live Champions League coverage.
