7Sports, the sports business arm of ProSiebenSat.1 Group, and Minute Media, founder of the global soccer network 90min, are expanding their collaboration.
In October 2015 ProSiebenSat.1 acquired a minority interest in 90min and now the fan-generated platform is to be developed together for the DACH region by a joint venture.
7Sports will adapt 90min to the requirements of users in the German-speaking region. As before, content will be written by the fans themselves. Initially, Minute Media holds a majority stake of 60% in the joint venture, while 7Sports has a 40% minority stake. Management of the company will be assumed by Duncan McMonagle, SVP of strategy & partnership at Minute Media, and Stefan Zant, COO of 7Sports.
Zeljko Karajica, CEO of 7Sports, said: “90min is completely in tune with the times. The soccer network brings fans together on a platform via the website, the mobile app and social media. Based on synergies with ran.de or Sportdeutschland.TV and the marketing power of the entire ProSiebenSat.1 network, we see strong potential to make 90min one of the leading soccer platforms in German-speaking region.”
Asaf Peled, founder and CEO of Minute Media added: “Minute Media is reaching about 75 million users around the world. As the fastest growing sports media platform in the world, 90min generates more than 20,000 pieces of content a month. We are excited to partner with 7Sports to bring our unique football fan experiences across mobile, video and social to the German football fan base.”
