Football media platform 90min has expanded its reach to Brazil with the opening of a Sao Paulo office and the appointment of Fábio Sá as country manager.
Sá will be responsible for growing the company’s engagements with brands and agencies and broader business development and strategy in the market.
The expansion to Brazil is in response to the rapid growth already realized in this region. In just over two years of producing local content in Portuguese, 90min Brazil has more than 8 million unique users per month. Content has been focused on the top Brazilian clubs and leagues, and will expand to the major international clubs and leagues.
Prior to joining 90min, Sá served as the director of ad sales for Turner’s Sports cluster, following Turner’s purchase of Esporte Interativo in 2015. Sá had worked at Esporte Interativo for 13 years as one of its first team members, helping to grow the company to become one of Brazil’s largest sports media players.
“I’m so excited to be joining 90min and tap into the passion of the Brazilian football fan,” said Sá. “In Brazil, “football is life, and 90min provides football fans with a platform to share their passion for the game and favourite players. I look forward to leading our local expansion and capturing even more of the fan base, in Brazil and beyond.”
“In Fábio, we have found a passionate football fan who really understands the needs of the Brazilian sports marketing and media landscape,” said Andrés Cárdenas, general manager, Latin America for Minute Media. “We are thrilled to have him on board on we continue to grow and create unique opportunities for brands and fans alike.”
In the Latin American region, 90min is distributed in English, Spanish and Portuguese and has plans to expand commercial operations to Argentina and Mexico.
The platform, shortlisted for Digital Platform of the Year at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016, enables more than 4,000 fan journalists to create a new form of social content and is currently generating more than 15,000 pieces of curated content per month in 10 languages.
