Motor racing series A1GP World Cup of Motorsport has restructured its qualification system following a consultation review of its inaugural season.

With effect from the A1GP Beijing race, from 10 to 12 November, the grid for the main race will be determined by the finishing results of the sprint contest earlier in the day. The winner of the sprint will start the race in pole position – the new format designed to simplify the qualifying system and make the results more immediate to the fans in the grandstand.

Also in effect from Beijing will be a change to the eligibility of rookie drivers for the preliminary race before each GP. The rookie session will now be open to drivers under the age of 28 or any driver from a developing motorsport nation.

The changes have been initiated following a thorough review of A1’s debut season that garnered views of fans and the 23 competing teams in equal measure.
