National music and entertainment brand, Absolute Radio, has secured the rights to broadcast live Barclays Premier League football commentary.
The deal sees the station awarded the rights to broadcast 32 Barclays Premier League matches at 3:00pm on Saturdays.
The three year deal starts when the new season kicks off in August 2010.
These exclusive premium property rights will offer an enticing sponsorship opportunity for commercial partners to work with the station.
Absolute Radio also intend to offer the listener a choice on a Saturday afternoon by splitting its frequencies.
The FM platform will broadcast ‘Rock n Roll Football’ – a mix of music and goals fronted by presenter Russ Williams, whilst AM will broadcast the new football commentary ‘Absolute Radio Football’.
The national DAB platform will also be split and both the new Barclay’s Premier League football commentary and ‘Rock n Roll Football’ will be available for DAB listeners to choose from.
Both streams will also be available to listen online in the UK at www.absoluteradio.co.uk.
This announcement follows the news that comedy pair Baddiel & Skinner will undertake a series of live broadcasts and daily podcasts from South Africa during the World Cup for Absolute Radio.
