Theo Walcott has signed with adidas, ending his long-term relationship with Nike, with the Arsenal and England forward set to become one of the “leading faces of the brand globally,” according to the sportswear company.

The 25 year-old will also join adidas’ major digital campaign, #therewillbehaters, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and former Southampton teammate Gareth Bale.

Walcott was due to debut the Adidas adiZero F50 boot during Arsenal’s Premier League game away at Crystal Palace on Saturday but was an unused substitute in the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. The striker could now sport the new adidas boot for the first time against Monaco in the Champions League.

Walcott said of the deal: “I am excited to be joining adidas and lining up alongside some of the world’s best players.

“The Adidas adiZero F50 is an exceptional boot and I am looking forward to wearing the boots and scoring goals in them.”

Gregory Fernandez, adidas’ global director of sports marketing added: “Theo is an exceptional player who has achieved so much in his career to date and we look forward to being part of that next chapter with him as one of the faces of the adidas F50”.

The new deal ends a near 12-year association with Nike, which began at the age of just 14.
