Adidas has launched its global marketing activity for the World Cup with an advert starring world player of the year Lionel Messi, alongside David Villa and Zinedine Zidane.
The advert, labelled as ‘Fast Vs Fast’, was launched on the brand’s Facebook page and coincides with the launch of the latest Adidas football boot – the F50 adizero.
Adidas plans to put the 90 second advert, created in film noir style, on television before the World Cup kicks off in South Africa on 11th June.
The spot, created by 180 Amsterdam and Riot, shows Zidane driving a classic car at speed, whilst Argentina play a match against Spain.
Action of both Messi and Villa scoring is showed as Zidane offers a voiceover, saying: ‘Speed meets speed. And the Gods will decide.’
The campaign will be supported by a ’50 Days of Fast’ Facebook push, which features Messi, and other footballers such as Kaka, De Rossi, Simao, Ballack and Gourcuff giving insights on how they think football has developed over the years to become a faster game.
The advert builds on last year’s The Spark campaign which featured Zinedine Zidane and introduced Lionel Messi as ‘The Spark’.
