Adidas To Rework Beckham Ads For US

Adidas is to rework its much lauded 2003 UK advertising campaign, featuring
David Beckham and Jonny Wilkinson, in the US to promote Beckham’s arrival in Los
Angeles, lining up the former England football captain alongside NFL star Reggie
Bush.

The new ‘Futbol v Football’ ad campaign will show Beckham and New Orleans
Saints running back Bush trying out each other’s sports in training, echoing the
Beckham and Wilkinson ads which ran four years ago in the UK prior to the Rugby
World Cup in 2003.

The new campaign is expected to be the first of a tranche of co-ordinated
marketing initiatives around Beckham’s transfer from Real Madrid to Major League
Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy next month.

The Beckham and Wilkinson ads which ran in 2003 were used to promote Adidas’
Predator range of boots whereas the campaign in the US is more promoting general
awareness of adidas’ range of football products.
