Aggreko has been revealed as the latest Official Supporter of next year’s Commonwealth Games, with the Glasgow-based firm set to provide temporary power across the Games’ 13 sports venues and the Athletes Village.

The temporary power systems, supplied by Aggreko, will form a part of the Commonwealth Games sustainability planning by utilising existing venues and providing all additional power requirements through temporary infrastructure.

This will be supplied via 103 individual generator sets connected through a network of more than 1,000 distribution boards and 200 kilometres of cabling.

The company was the official Temporary Energy Services Supplier to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Recent customers also include the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Glasgow 2014’s chief executive, David Grevemberg, said: ‘Aggreko has a great track record of supporting mega events worldwide and who better to join the Glasgow 2014 sponsor family as our Official Temporary Power Supporter than such a highly-regarded global power company with its headquarters in the Glasgow area.’

Rupert Soames, chief executive of Aggreko plc, added: ‘We are absolutely delighted to be an official supplier to Glasgow 2014 and to be playing a key role in staging an event that will showcase this wonderful city and its people.’

‘We look forward to supporting the Organising Committee by providing a seamless temporary power supply across all competition venues and ensuring an uninterrupted television broadcast to millions of viewers throughout the world.’
