Amazon has introduced a pay-per-view service for live Ligue 1 football matches on Prime Video in the UK, allowing viewers to access up to three games per weekend without a Prime subscription.
The matches, including key fixtures such as Paris Saint-Germain versus Marseille later in the season, have been made available at a price of £2.49 per game. The move aligns with Amazon’s strategy to position Prime Video as a platform for aggregating live sports content beyond its existing rights to the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
The company has previously offered live pay-per-view boxing and provided users with the option to subscribe to third-party sports services, including Discovery+, Premier Sports, and LaLiga TV. The new pay-per-view feature has been made available to any interested rights holders or broadcasters, regardless of whether they offer a direct-to-consumer service on Amazon.
Amazon’s investment in live sports coverage in the UK has continued to grow, with its broadcast of the UEFA Champions League match between Manchester City and Real Madrid having attracted more than four million viewers, marking the highest audience for a live sporting event on Prime Video in the UK.
LFP Media has confirmed that the agreement extends its collaboration with Amazon to a new territory, following the recent launch of its direct-to-consumer service, Ligue 1 Pass, in the UK.
Tim Wood, Head of Rights and Business Affairs at Prime Video Sport, EMEA, said, “This brings football fans on Prime Video more choice and flexibility, allowing them to enjoy new leagues and teams at a low-cost, without the need for long-term commitments or subscriptions. This new marketplace will connect major sports competitions with millions of households who are actively using Prime Video to stream, rent and buy sports and entertainment.”
