Under Armour has signed a four-year apparel sponsorship with British number one Andy Murray.

The 27 year-old will now wear the US brand’s clothing, footwear and accessories on and off the court for the duration of the agreement.

However, the tennis star will continue to wear adidas’ Barricade shoes until Under Armour develops footwear specifically for him in the first half of 2015.

Murray had previously been endorsed by adidas since leaving Fred Perry in 2009.

As part of the deal, Murray – ranked sixth in the world – will also feature in upcoming marketing campaigns for Under Armour as well as participating in global activations, beginning in January.

Financial terms of the agreement have not been released but reports speculate it could be worth as much as £15 million over its four-year term, depending on performance.

Murray, who joins an Under Armour roster that includes Lindsey Vonn, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Stephen Curry, Jordan Spieth and fellow tennis player Sloane Stephens, said: “I am very honoured and excited to be joining Team Under Armour and to help them tell their story globally.

“They are committed to providing innovative apparel, accessories, and footwear, with an unmatched focus on training and performance.”

The new contract was negotiated on Murray’s behalf by Matt Gentry, who is the managing director of 77 Management, the personal management company Murray established shortly after winning the Wimbledon title in 2013.

Ryan Kuehl, Under Armour’s senior category director for global golf and tennis, commented: “Signing Andy is really a special moment for the brand, as we continue to elevate and diversify our athlete roster and expand our international presence.

Gentry added: “Andy is very committed and focused when it comes to training and preparation, so the new partnership with Under Armour is an exciting and ideal match.

“Athlete performance and product innovation are the brand’s core pillars, which will have strong benefits for Andy and the team in 2015 and beyond.”

The new deal was not unexpected, after the Scot posed for a photograph with a fan whilst wearing an Under Armour shirt early in December.
