Legendary jockey AP McCoy took home the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2014 on Thursday 30th April 2015.
The world’s greatest jump jockey won one of the evening’s most prestigious accolades for a career spanning twenty years, racking up more than 4,300 wins from over 16,000 races. The Award was presented to the lifelong Arsenal fan by Thierry Henry and Clare Balding. This achievement recognises and rewards the individual, team or organisation who has made the most impact in the world of sport. Previous winners include Brian O’Driscoll, Sir Alex Ferguson, Team GB, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and David Beckham.
Picking up the award during the first week of his retirement, AP McCoy said: “It’s very strange now, I can go home and eat what I want, it’s a very different way of life. I’ll miss riding more than anything else in the world. I’ve lived my life as a hobby, I’m going to miss it. I still haven’t watched any coverage from Saturday, but it was very emotional then, as it was tonight.”
The 14th annual BT Sport Industry Awards took place at Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London and was attended by 1,750 high profile guests from the British and international sport industry. This year’s awards were presented by a number of famous faces including Eddie Izzard, David Ginola and Kimberly Wyatt and the judging process involved 83 key industry figures and 36 hours of intensive judging, fully overseen by Deloitte, the Independent Scrutineers of the BT Sport Industry Awards.
