Manchester United has confirmed that Richard Arnold will succeed Ed Woodward as the Premier League club’s top executive on 1st February.
Arnold, who has spearheaded various commercial deals at the club since becoming United’s Group Managing Director in 2013, will become Chief Executive.
United announced in April 2021 that Woodward would be leaving his role as Executive Vice-Chairman. He advised the Glazer family on their takeover of the club in 2005 and served as a Board Member before becoming Executive Vice-Chairman in 2012.
He assumed former CEO David Gill’s responsibilities when the latter stepped down from his role in 2013.
Woodward, who was initially expected to leave his role at United at the end of last year, will continue to attend board meetings until the end of the current season, but will no longer have any involvement in the day-to-day running of the club from the start of next month.
“I am honoured to have the chance to serve this great club and its fans. I am determined to return that honour in any way I can,” Arnold said.
Joel Glazer, United’s Executive Co-Chairman, added, “I would like to thank Ed for his tireless work on behalf of Manchester United during his nine years as executive vice-chairman and 16 years with the club.
“We are now looking forward to Richard and his leadership team opening a new phase in the club’s evolution, with ambitious plans for investment in Old Trafford, the strengthening of our engagement with fans, and continued drive towards our most important objective – winning on the pitch.”
