Arsenal fans and keen runners from more than 20 countries around the world came together on Saturday to take part in the annual ‘Be a Gunner. Be a Runner’ event, in aid of the club’s global charity partner, Save the Children.

With around 750 runners participating at the Emirates Stadium event, this year also saw the club challenge its overseas fan base to organise their own 6.4km runs in their own countries.

After a proactive campaign targeting Supporters’ Clubs, Arsenal’s network of international Soccer Schools and social media, entries were received from individuals and groups in more than 20 different countries, including Australia, India, Poland and Nigeria to help spread the world about the club’s global charity partnership. One event set up by the Indonesian branch of Arsenal’s Supporters’ Club attracted more than 500 people to a football field in Jakarta.

This year’s event at Emirates Stadium was also the biggest yet, with 400 adults taking on the 10-lap, 6.4km route around the Gunners’ home and more than 300 youngsters completing a shorter one or two lap race.
More than £40,000 has been raised for Save the Children to date, with more expected to follow in the coming weeks.

All funds raised from the event will go towards the club’s partnership with Save the Children, supporting a range of education projects in the UK and overseas, helping the poorest children get a better start in life and giving them the chance to grow and fulfil their potential.
