The Amateur Swimming Association has launched a new initiative designed to draw
young children into the sport of diving ahead of London 2012 Olympics.
The ‘Diving FUNdamentals’ programme, running under the brand name ‘Flip n
Fun’ will introduce children to the basics of diving.
‘Flip n Fun’ is aimed at all children aged five to 11 and is the first stage
of six within the ASA’s Long Term Athlete Development model for diving.
The initiative involves a structured programme providing children with
familiarity of basic movements and skills in the water and on dry land at
schools and facilities nationwide.
Swimming teachers will be able to deliver ‘Flip n Fun’ courses, after
completing the required ‘Flip n Fun’ Continuing Professional Development module,
and can be held at swimming pools without diving boards as activities take place
from the side of a pool.
