Setanta has run into trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority after the watchdog body received complaints of inappropriate sexual references in the broadcaster’s festive advertising campaign featuring presenter Des Lynam as ‘Setanta Claus’.

The ASA received 23 complaints in response to the advert which shows Lynam dressed up as a yellow ‘Setanta Claus’ and actress/singer Thaila Zucchi as his scantilly-clad helper.

Lynam gives a grown man who enters the Santa’s grotto a Setanta Freeview Subscription Pack and asks him if he would like anything else.

The man takes a look at Zucchi’s cleavage and asks for a ‘couple of puppies’.

The complaints received by the ASA suggested that reference constituted an inappropriate sexual content for an advert being screened at all hours of the day.

A spokesman for the ASA said is was still considering whether or not there were grounds for an investigation regarding the advert which was created by Setanta’s advertising agency, Big Al’s Creative Emporium.
