Slazenger marked the start of back-to-back Ashes Series this week by announcing the addition of Australian all-rounder Steve Smith to the brand’s cricket roster, joining the man he could be facing more than anyone this summer, England’s strike bowler, James Anderson.
The 24 year-old, who has a British mother, will endorse Slazenger’s V Series equipment including the V100 TAS Ultimate bat.
The all-rounder said: ‘I’m delighted to join the Slazenger team. Many of the leading players in world use Slazenger V Series equipment, highlighting why Slazenger continues to be one of the leading brands in cricket. I’m extremely proud to be part of that.’
Sunny Singh, head of sports marketing for Slazenger, said: ‘Steve is a great signing to the Slazenger brand. The next few years are huge for cricket. We are incredibly proud of the kit and equipment in our 2013 range and to have another player representing the brand in a double Ashes year is fantastic testament to that.’
Smith begins day two of the first Investec Ashes Test on 38 not out, finishing as second top scorer in the Test on a day for bowling. England were skittled out with little resistance for 215, before Australia also suffered in bowler-friendly conditions to reach 75 for 4 at stumps.
Meanwhile, former England cricket captains Andrew Strauss and Michael Vaughan have become brand ambassadors for Australian wine brand Wolf Blass.
The pair will appear in television advertisements for the Barossa Valley-based winery, which will air during Sky Sports’ coverage of this summer’s Ashes series in England as well as the second series in Australia this winter.
Wolf Blass, a subsidiary of Australian wine company Treasury Wine Estates, has a deal in place with Sky Sports to receive advertising exposure throughout the network’s TV coverage of the two series, as well as during replays, on catch-up TV and Skysports.com.
