Running brand Asics has launched a number of tips aimed at new runners in a new video, inspired by independent research produced over the coronavirus lockdown.

Asics has pointed to data from its RunKeeper app, which has shown a 13% increase in active users across June and July compared to the same period in 2019, as well as research it says gives insight into the support and guidance new runners say they need to keep it up.

The brand says 68% of ‘lockdown runners’ say they had received no support, putting them at risk of injury and ultimately giving up. In a new video, Asics aims to give advice on issues such as how to stay motivated, how to avoid injury, and how to create a training programme to help new runners continue on their journey.

In June, the brand released results of an earlier study which revealed attitudes to running in 12 countries across the world during lockdown, with 82% of the 14,000 runners surveyed saying the sport had helped them keep a clear mind.
