The Aston Martin Formula 1 team have secured the signature of legendary designer Adrian Newey, who will serve as Managing Technical Partner.

The 65-year-old, who has won 25 titles in his career including 12 World Drivers’ Championships,  will start work at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Silverstone in March 2025.

According to Sky Sports, Newey will be paid a basic salary of £20m per year, which could rise to £30m with bonuses. He will also reportedly become a shareholder in the UK-based F1 outfit.

Newey, pictured above, has been at Red Bull since 2006.

Newey, who spent the past 19 years at Red Bull Racing, announced in April that he would be leaving the defending champions next year.

Prior to his tenure at Red Bull, he previously worked at McLaren and Williams, is one of the sport’s most decorated designers.

“Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team,” said Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman at Aston Martin.

“Adrian shares our hunger and ambition, he believes in this project, and he will help us write the next chapter in Aston Martin Aramco’s Formula One story.”

Aston Martin rejoined Formula 1 in 2021.

Newey added, “Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team. He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport.

“Together with great partners like Honda and Aramco, they have all the key pieces of infrastructure needed to make Aston Martin a world championship-winning team and I am very much looking forward to helping reach that goal.”
