Atos has announced it has furthered support of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games with the appointment of two of Scotland’s leading triathletes as brand ambassadors.

In an official press release from the International IT services company, the Official Supporter of Glasgow 2014 also added that it was on schedule in its preparations of vital management and information technology systems for the Commonwealth Games.

Team Scotland prospective athletes, David McNamee, 25, and Marc Austin, 19, will work with the Atos team in the run up to and after Glasgow 2014, to amplify the company’s partnership with the Games and highlight the importance and relevance of information technology in athletic and business performance.

David won a silver medal at the 2011 World U23 Triathlon Championship and so far in 2013 he has recorded two top ten finishes in the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series.   Marc has represented Great Britain at the last three European and World Junior Triathlon Championships, winning a silver medal in the 2013 Junior World Championships in London earlier this year.

Senior executives told a gathering of key Games stakeholders and customers attending an event at Glasgow’s Hampden Park – the main track and field athletics venue during the Games – this morning that the company’s experience of more than two decades of support to Olympic and Paralympic Games around the world would help power new levels of performance for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Atos has been working with the Organising Committee to deliver a range of essential Games Management and Information Systems, including the volunteer portal, the games workforce management system, the accreditation management system and the Internet Results Service.

Atos senior vice president, Scotland, Gavin Thomson, said the company was placing significant emphasis on ensuring the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games was the best and most successful Commonwealth Games ever.

‘Our business technologists are already powering performance at the heart of the Games, working closely with the Organising Committee to deliver the best possible results for Glasgow 2014. Atos is one of the few proven delivery experts in this field thanks to our substantial expertise as Worldwide IT Partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.’

‘We have already delivered great results with the online volunteer portal which managed the applications for the Games volunteer roles earlier this year and processed the 50,811 applications from people who used the portal to register their interest in participating in the Games. Work is currently under way on our accreditation management system which will accredit up to 70,000 Games participants including athletes, officials, workforce, volunteers, media and sponsors.’

‘We are proud of the work our team delivers not only for Glasgow 2014, but also for our clients on a day-to-day basis in a wide range of private and public business sectors across Scotland. We are passionate about delivering our world-class solution from Scotland on the world stage.’

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 chief executive, added: ‘We are very proud to have global IT experts Atos as part of Glasgow 2014’s Sponsor Family.’

‘For Glasgow 2014, Atos’ Business Technologists, based in Scotland, will work with their major events team in Barcelona providing an end-to-end service including the Games Management System, the Games Information System and the Internet Results Service. These systems are critical to the delivery of our Games and require significant specialist expertise, for which Atos is world-renowned.’

On 6th November, Grevemberg will join a host of leaders of major international events coming to the UK over the next few years at the final Nolan Partners Sport Industry Breakfast Club of 2013. Find out more here.
