Hardys, the Official Wine of England Cricket, has linked up with England star Jonny Bairstow to kick-start a search for the community heroes of the game.
The brand took Bairstow to his local club, New Rover CC in Leeds, as part of the launch of its new Heartbeat of the Club campaign.
Under the initiative, Hardys is calling on all those involved in grassroots cricket to nominate those unsung individuals who go above and beyond to keep the game thriving in their local club and community – from the groundsman who dedicates his evening to maintaining the pitch, to the cook who makes sure every team is suitably fuelled.
Nominees will be shortlisted by a panel including Hardys ambassador and England star Stuart Broad and a final XI will be put to a public vote to decide the Hardys Heartbeat of the Club 2018.
The eventual winners are set to receive a visit from an England legend, who will bring a fully-stocked Hardys Pavilion wine bar to their club. Runners-up will all also win tickets to watch England in action in 2019, as well as a case of Hardys wine.
Commenting on the campaign, Bairstow said: “Coming from a cricketing family, I’ve seen first-hand the work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure cricket happens week in week out. I’m delighted to help Hardys launch their search for the Heartbeat of the Club and encourage cricket clubs nationwide to nominate their Heartbeat of the Club.”
David White, Accolade Wines marketing director, added: “As a brand that celebrates friends, families and communities coming together to play cricket we wanted to reward those that make it possible.
“We are delighted that Jonny Bairstow has helped up launch the Hardys Heartbeat of the Club 2018 and are hugely excited to be shining the spotlight on those who go above and beyond for their club!”
Hardys has been activating its England cricket partnership through its ‘The Rules according to Hardys’ campaign, which celebrates the quirky traditions often seen when friends and family come together for a game of garden cricket.
