Fan-led sports media company, Ball Street, has created its own football tournament by recruiting some of YouTube’s biggest football teams.

The headline sponsor has been confirmed as FanLeague – the football predictions app whose launch coincides with the tournament.

Ball Street co-founder and CEO Matt Wilson explained: “The whole premise of the Ball Street Network is to unleash the power of fans working together. So it’s in our DNA to build something where the YouTube football community comes together to create an exciting narrative that will generate engagement at scale and therefore huge value for the brands that have the foresight to get involved.

“The FanLeague Cup not only allows us to do what we love – play football – but it also allows to do what we do best: bringing the power of big ideas, creativity, network and black book together to create amazing experiences for that fans, creators and brands can enjoy together”.

“This we feel is a refreshing alternative to the world where millions of ad dollars are wasted on advertising people don’t want.”

FanLeague co-founder and CEO Markus Jennemyr said: “FanLeague is all about connecting fans globally and providing a social football experience and, just like our game, the FanLeague Cup is about mates competing and putting their footballing abilities to the test.

We strongly believe in fan-led media and Ball Street is a key strategic partner for us to achieve our goal of building the largest online football community in the world. The FanLeague Cup is a great example of our partnership and we are very proud to be the headline sponsor of this tournament.”

Ball Street was shortlisted for Young Agency of the Year at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2017.
