LaLiga club FC Barcelona has extended its partnership with Chinese smartphone brand OPPO by three years.
The deal prolongs a partnership that was first established four years ago. According to the two parties, it is the longest running commercial relationship between a Chinese brand and a European football club.
The renewed partnership will include in-stadium signage, training camps, workshops for fans and creative online and offline fans engagement activities. To mark the renewal, OPPO unveiled a limited-edition FC Barcelona Reno 10x Zoom Series handset at a launch event at the club’s Nou Camp stadium.
OPPO Global Marketing Director Derek Sun said: “These elements aim to inspire Barca fans, strengthen the community by bringing them closer to the club and OPPO products, and drive our two sides’ shared values of passion, creativity, innovation and perfection.”
Alen Wu, Global Vice President, President of Overseas Business at OPPO, added: “Spain – and the European market overall – is an integral region for OPPO as we grow our presence there, and we know that in order to grow we must connect with our customers.”
OPPO has strengthened its positioning in the sports market by becoming the first Asian sponsor of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and the first Chinese sponsor of another Grand Slam, the French Open at Roland-Garros. The brand is also a partner of India’s national cricket team.
Meanwhile Barcelona has undertaken a number of technology-driven initiatives in recent times, and the Nou Camp is set to welcome dedicated 5G coverage in the near future.
Barcelona Board Member Josep Pont (pictured), who leads the club’s commercial division, added: “The agreement between FC Barcelona and OPPO began four years ago based on shared values, goals and philosophies. We shall continue to work on new projects to generate unique and innovative experiences that will bring us even closer to our fans around the world.”
