Barclays and US sportswear company Under Armour have signed deals with the Red Bull Arena, home of MLS side the New York Red Bulls, which will see the brands sponsor a friendly game between the Red Bulls and English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on 31st July.
The game will now be known as the Barclays New York Cup powered by Under Armour.
Barclays are the title sponsor of the Brooklyn Nets new basketball arena, while Under Armour are Tottenham Hotspur’s new kit supplier, after launching a new partnership earlier this year.
Gerard LaRocca, chief administrative officer, Americas, Barclays, said: ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring the Barclays New York Cup between Tottenham Hotspur of the Barclays Premier League and the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.’
‘As a long term partner of soccer, and a sponsor of a 2010 tournament at Red Bull Arena with both of these teams, it is a real pleasure to be involved in bringing two of the best teams from both sides of the Atlantic together once again.’
‘Barclays commitment with global soccer is certainly tangible in their long time title sponsorship of the Barclays Premier League,’ added New York Red Bulls president of business operations Chris Heck.
