Basketball Team Thrown Out League
Cheshire Jets have been thrown out of the British Basketball League because of their financial problems, despite new owner Hadyn Cook’s best efforts, having saved the club from going out of existence last month.
The Jets asked the league to postpone Sunday’s fixture against the Mersey Tigers as he tried to raise extra funds. However, the request was rejected.
A BBL statement said: ‘The BBL have withdrawn the Cheshire franchise from its operating company with immediate effect.’
‘This decision follows an urgent review of the franchise following notification from the club that they were unable to fulfil their fixture this weekend.’
‘The BBL is currently exploring a number of options to ensure the continuation of the franchise. It is anticipated there will be a further announcement in the coming days.’
Cheshire Jets, who play their home matches in Chester, have won just one of their six league games this season.
