BBC and ITV will again be joint host broadcasters of next summer’s UEFA European Championships 2008 after finalising their rights contract with the governing body.
Viewers in the UK will be able to watch all 31 Euro 2008 matches broadcast live on BBC and ITV channels and websites, as well as daily highlights programmes.
Extensive television coverage of Euro 2008 will be complemented through further Euro 2008 content being made available on all of BBC and ITV’s media platforms.
The European broadcast rights to the tournament are being sold on a market-by-market basis for the first time in the 46-year history of the tournament having previously been sold exclusively to collective representative body the EBU.
Sportfive is UEFA’s exclusive sales agent for the exploitation of European broadcast rights relating to Euro 2008.
BBC and ITV will be hoping that England can qualify for the tournament this week else there will be no home nations competing next summer – a scenario which would be a substantial hit to the broadcasters’ audience figures and advertising revenues.
