The BBC will reportedly spend £1m on a custom-built studio in Cape Town for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports the broadcaster has chosen the South African capital as its base because the Johannesburg skyline isn’t as aesthetically pleasing.
FIFA had set up a purposely built media hub in Johannesburg next to Soccer City, but the BBC has chosen to erect its glass studio on the roof of the Somerset Hospital in Greenpoint – boasting views of the Cape Town Stadium, Table Mountain and Robben Island.
The BBC has announced that it is taking 295 staff to the tournament which kicks off on the 11th June.
Cape Town hosts 8 of the 64 matches to be played – with the World Cup Final hosted at Soccer City.
