This BBC has announced it will broadcast League of Legends coverage from the UK League Championship (UKLC) and Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) throughout the summer.

The broadacster’s coverage began on Sunday 14th June with the start of the UKLC, and will continue with the NLC on Tuesday, 16th June.

Earlier this year, Barclays became the Lead Sponsor of the UKLC’s 2020 Summer Split. The brand has also partnered with student esports governing body National Student Esports (NSE), furthering its involvement in the UK esports space.

Across eight weeks, eight teams will compete in the UKLC qualifiers every Sunday and Monday evening until 27th July, before a semi-finals stage builds up to the Grand Finals on 2nd and 3rd August.

“When it comes to esports, it doesn’t come much bigger than League of Legends and we’re very excited to see all teams in action throughout this summer period,” saud Ben Gallop, Head of Digital, BBC Sport.

“Along with all the live sport that is about to resume on the BBC soon, this coverage over the coming weeks shows our ongoing commitment to esports.”

The news follows a number of esports properties picked up by the BBC in recent times, following competitions such as the Rocket League European Spring Series, the ePremier League Invitational, Formula E’s Race At Home Challenge, the W Series Esports League and the Digital Swiss 5.
