The BBC and cricket’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), have agreed a four-year UK digital rights deal.

The deal gives the BBC rights to show video clips of up to six minutes per hour of play, end of day round-ups, digital preview features and archive material in the UK. The video packages will be available on BBC digital formats, including mobile phone alerts and on a live page.

Major international competitions are covered by the agreement, including the World Twenty20, Champions Trophy, Women’s World Cup, and the 2019 World Cup.

Barbara Slater, director, BBC Sport, said: “We’re very pleased to announce this new agreement with the ICC, which is all about free-to-air accessibility and bringing the best of cricket to as wide an audience as possible across the UK.”

ICC finance and commercial affairs committee chairman Giles Clarke said: “The ICC is delighted to partner with BBC Sport in the United Kingdom, which is widely respected and followed due to its ability and resources to produce high-quality cricket content.”

The news of the deal follows from the ICC announcing a four-year agreement with ESPN to broadcast on-demand highlights of all ICC events staged between 2016-2019.
