BBC secures UK broadcast rights to The Open
BBC Sport has acquired UK broadcast rights to The Open Championship for the 2025 to 2027 period through a new multi-year agreement with The R&A.
The agreement begins with the 153rd Open, taking place at Royal Portrush from 17–20 July 2025. Coverage will include 38 hours of live commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds, starting with the opening tee shot and concluding with the final putt.
Additional content such as match highlights and digital clips has been made available via the BBC Sport website, app, and social media channels.
BBC television has provided daily highlights from the Championship, with Sarah Mulkerrins and Rishi Persad leading the onsite team and commentary from Andrew Cotter and Ken Brown. Online text coverage has also been published throughout the event on BBC Sport’s digital platforms.

The partnership has been confirmed as part of The R&A’s ongoing broadcast strategy to retain wide-reaching access across the UK.
It also aligns with BBC Sport’s efforts to maintain coverage of key sporting events, as part of its current portfolio, which includes the Women’s UEFA Euro 2025, Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, Wimbledon, and the Paris Olympic Games.
