The BBC has furthered its relationship with the NFL, striking an exclusive live rights deal to broadcast the regular season game staged in London in October, this year featuring the San Diego Chargers and the New Orleans Saints.
The game, a competitive regular-season match taking place on 26th October, will kick off at 5pm on BBC Two, with coverage switching to BBC Three at 7pm. BBC Two will air highlights of the game later in the evening, with highlights also available on BBC iPlayer.
BBC Sport is entering the second year of an exclusive free-to-air deal with the NFL, which began last season with a live broadcast of Super Bowl XLII from Arizona and highlights of the game at Wembley between the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins – the first competitive NFL game ever played outside of North America.
Last year’s Wembley game was won by the Giants, eventual Super Bowl champions, in front of a sell-out crowd and this year’s game is again over-subscribed many times. Last month’s sale of the first 40,000 general admission tickets was completed in 90 minutes.
Last year’s Wembley game was such a success that the NFL has committed to playing at least one game in the UK for each of the next three seasons.
