Beckham Boosts 2018 Hopes With Festival

David Beckham has boosted England’s hopes of staging the 2018 World Cup by upholding a promise to FIFA vice-president president Jack Warner as he launches a football festival in Trinidad this weekend.??

Beckham will be fulfilling a long-standing personal commitment to FIFA vice-president and CONCACAF president Warner by taking his Academy to the islands and provide football and life skills programmes as well as coaching workshops to almost 200 young players and coaches.

??The two discussed the proposed project at the FIFA World Cup 2010 Final Draw in Cape Town last December.??

Warner holds one of the 24 votes on the FIFA executive committee, which names the 2018 and 2022 hosts in December.

Warner, along with FIFA president Sepp Blatter, is expected to attend the event.? ?

‘It is heartening to know that a man of such international stature remains committed to the development of talent worldwide,’ Warner said of Beckham.

Beckham will kick off six days of activity with the football festival at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Sunday. ??

England 2018 international president David Dein and chief executive Andy Anson will also attend Saturday’s final. ??

The David Beckham Academy is part of England’s football development proposal to FIFA.
