David Beckham’s commercial clout shows now sign of waning after reports surfaced
that he is close to agreeing a £10m endorsement deal with cosmetic giant
L’Oreal.
Beckham is set to become the latest celebrity to utter the brand’s ‘because
I’m worth it’ strapline with the former England captain rumoured to be in
negotiations regarding fronting a new L’Oreal haircare range.
Despite losing his place in the England team and a move to the US lined up
for the summer, Beckham has retained his appeal to his sponsors with
multi-million pound deals still in place with adidas, Motorola and Pepsi.
L’Oreal has used sport stars before in its advertising, most notably
footballer David Ginola, although its endorsement deals with actresses are more
prominent with the likes of Eva Longoria and Jennifer Aniston appearing in
previous advertising campaigns.
