To celebrate International Women’s Day, Guild Esports has released a new video featuring co-owner David Beckham in conversation with two of the organisation’s content creators.
The England football legend, who starred for Manchester United FC and Real Madrid CF in a glittering career, engaged Niki Nichachu and Harrie Silver in a conversation about the role that gaming and esports can play in driving equal opportunities for young women.
The content creators shared their own journey to becoming a success in the industry and how they are helping to empower younger girls to follow a similar route.
As part of the conversation, Beckham talks about the women who have inspired him throughout life, including Olympic and world champion heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Williams sisters in tennis and football’s Lionesses.
He also talks about the excitement he has for his daughter, Harper, being able to grow up in a world that is becoming more equal for women, especially in gaming and esports.
Beckham has brought his own experience in starting off as a professional player to the organisation through Guild Academy – a system of coaching excellence for esports players aged 11 and above.
Aside from esports training, the academy also offers sessions on nutrition, mental health and routes into other roles within the industry.
Nichachu said, “It’s really great that we have given women the opportunity to go further and start their own businesses and brands, expand and explore everything that they want to. A few years ago, we couldn’t even think about that.”
