According to reports, former England football captain David Beckham has decided
against renewing his endorsement deal with Gillette due to a disagreement over
the nature of the renewal contract on the table.
Gillette had offered a new £3m contract to Beckham but the world renowned
footballer’s advisors have apparently turned it down due to a desire to create
better profit sharing arrangements in his sponsorship deals.
Speculation states that Gillette were only prepared to offer a flat fee in
the new 12-month contract where’s Beckham’s advisers, 19 Management, were
requesting a flexible arrangement based on profits derived from the tie-up.
Gillette recently signed up Tiger Woods, Thierry Henry and Roger Federer to
join Beckham as brand ambassadors under a new global marketing campaign entitled
‘Champions’.
Beckham, who has moved to Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy this summer,
signed a three-year deal with Gillette in 2004, which expired at the end of
June, and has featured in ads for the company’s M3Power and Fusion razors.
