David Beckham’s move to the US appears not to have affected his commercial attraction after the former England football captain was unveiled as a global ambassador for fashion brand Giorgio Armani.
Beckham will act as a brand ambassador for the fashion label’s Emporio underwear collection and is the player’s first formal clothing contract.
The multimillion-pound deal will sit alongside Beckham’s existing global long-term sponsorship deal with sports brand Adidas.
The Armani deal is for an initial three-year deal under a royalty-based payment scheme meaning that Beckham will receive a share of product sales on top of the annual sponsorship fee outlined in the contract.
The deal was brokered by Beckham’s agents, 19 Entertainment, which took on representation of the player in 2003.
