It has been revealed that David Beckham’s income from personal sponsorship deals dropped by approximately 10% in the year he retired from football, after the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star’s accounts company, Footwork Productions, showed that earnings dropped from £16.5 million to £14.8 million in 2012.

The Footwork Productions accounts show that the ‘exploitation of David Beckham’s name and image rights’ is the former England captain’s main source of income, through deals with the likes of adidas, H&M and BSkyB.

Pre-tax profits soarded from £390,539 to £12.5 million, although Beckham took no salary as he did in 2012 of £14.1 million. Instead, the company paid out £7.5 million in dividends.

Beckham stopped playing in May 2013 after five months at Paris Saint-Germain, where he donated his entire salary to charity. Prior to that, Beckham spent more than five years at the Los Angeles Galaxy before leaving Major League Soccer in December 2013.
