Following the news that the Toronto Wolfpack will not be readmitted to the Betfred Super League next season, the league’s Board has confirmed that it will find a replacement club in 2021.

The Board voted unanimously in favour of admitting a 12th team to the competition next season instead of continuing with one fewer side. The new club will be selected by a committee headed by an independent chairman, who will be chosen at a later date.

“Our clubs unanimously voted for a 12-team Super League in 2021. The process of choosing that 12th team will start as soon as possible,” said Robert Elstone, Executive Chairman, Betfred Super League.

“We are committed to ensuring that the process is independent and impartial, and stands up to scrutiny, and accordingly, ensuring the committee is properly constituted and clearly mandated is our first priority.”

The Board also voted in favour of a 27-round regular season for 2021, including the Dacia Magic Weekend, and changed its 2020 structure to expand the playoffs.

The 2020 season will be reshaped November in response to the impact of coronavirus cases at two clubs, Hull KR and Castleford Tigers..

Four elimination playoffs will determine the make-up of the Grand Final, currently scheduled for Friday 27th November.
