The organising committee for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has agreed sponsorship deals with BMet, Microplus, Domestic & General (D&G) and Aston University.

BMet has been named as the official further education college provider for the Games. BMet, one of the largest further education colleges in Birmingham, will provide space for the training of more than 13,000 Games volunteers as part of the agreement.

Microplus will serve as the official provider of Games information systems for Birmingham 2022. The company’s Games information systems will be used to provide in-time and accurate results for fans visiting the Birmingham 2022 website and related partner channels.

Appliance care specialist D&G has been named as the Games’ official warranty provider. D&G will use the Games to grow its visibility across the West Midlands and promote the region on a global stage.

Meanwhile, Aston University will serve as an official university of the Games and will loan ophthalmic equipment – which is used in eye-testing – to organisers. The university will also provide eye care expertise for three polyclinics which will form the primary healthcare facilities for athletes and team officials.

Additionally, Aston University will support a carbon-neutral legacy by providing parking and a temporary electric vehicle charging station.

Postgraduate business and management students at the university’s business school have also been tasked with developing ideas to create a lasting sustainability legacy for Birmingham. These will be reviewed by Birmingham 2022 and West Midlands Combined Authority.

Katie Sadleir, Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Executive, said, “Each sponsor brings with them industry leading expertise, and it’s fantastic to see the collaboration already happening to ensure Birmingham 2022 delivers a spectacular multi-sport event this summer.”

The Commonwealth Games will take place from 28th July until 8th August.
