Karren Brady, the chief executive of Birmingham City Football Club, is to take over from Margaret Mountford as an adviser to Lord Sugar on the BBC’s hit TV show The Apprentice.

A spokeswoman for production company talkbackTHAMES said that the 40-year-old Brady would take over as an adviser for the sixth series.

Brady will accompany public relations executive Nick Hewer in monitoring candidates during their tasks.

In March 2006 she was chosen as team leader on a version of the BBC show for Comic Relief, where she led her team to victory over the boys’ team, raising more than £750,000 for charity.

Brady and Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan also recently learned that they will not be prosecuted after a two-year police investigation into suspected tax irregularities.
