Blackburn Rovers is the latest FA Premier League club to reveal that it is in
takeover talks, with the financial suitor believed to be a US investor.
Blackburn chairman John Williams commented: ‘We’re willing sellers in
discussions with third parties and those discussions have naturally progressed
over a period of time.
‘We’ve made some progress with a third party but it is very difficult because
of all of the formalities involved. At present there is nothing else of
particular significance to report.’
According to Williams, the club have been involved in negotiations for a
number of months with a foreign businessman although he refused to confirm the
identity.
Media speculation named the man behind the consortium as Daniel Williams, a
Lancashire-born, American-based businessman, with the bid quoted as being close
to £67m.
Any potential deal at Ewood Park hinges on whether the trustees of the late
Jack Walker, the former owner and chairman, approve the sale.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa have all been taken over by US
entrepreneurs in recent times while the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City
have received notable interest.
