FIFA president Sepp Blatter has given England’s 2018 World Cup bid a huge boost, declaring that it would be ‘easy’ to host the tournament in the country.

Said Blatter: ‘The easiest way to organise the World Cup is to go to England. Everything is there – fans, stadiums, infrastructure – it’s easy.’

In the week that FIFA delegates are in England to examine the bid – Blatter’s timely comments will be sure to lift the 2018 bid team.

The FIFA inspection team, led by the Chilean federation president Harold Mayne-Nicholls and including South Africa’s World Cup chief executive Danny Jordaan, also met deputy prime minister Nick Clegg at Downing Street.

Clegg told the FIFA inspectors England’s bid for the 2018 World Cup is ‘unbeatable’.

Clegg said: ‘I believe this is an exceptionally strong, unbeatable bid. We in this government believe in it, we hope that you will believe in it.’

‘Our job is to show you we already have the infrastructure and facilities to host a World Cup,’ he added.

The hosts for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups will be revealed on 2nd December.

The inspection team also met the England manager, Fabio Capello at Wembley, where they toured the stadium and watched a community coaching session.

They will also travel to the north-east and north-west of England during their visit, which aims to assess the technical aspects of the bid.
