FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, has implied that football’s governing body could approve the use of video technology during matches.

Blatter has previously spoken against the use of video technology, however, he now admits that FIFA will discuss the matter in March at the next meeting of the International Football Association Board – but says there is no chance of technology being used in this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

‘I’m not absolutely against it. If the technology is ready to adopt, then I am in agreement. If the security of the system is guaranteed then we will introduce it. But it will not be ready for the 2010 World Cup’, said Blatter.

Blatter also ruled out the use of extra referees behind the goal during the World Cup, saying, ‘We will not make any experiments in this competition, not even with extra referees’. The method has been used during the Europa League this season.
