Football’s world governing body FIFA has provisionally suspended its president Sepp Blatter, secretary general Jerome Valcke and vice-president Michel Platini for 90 days, after members of FIFA’s ethics committee recommended the sanction.

The suspension follows the Swiss attorney general opening criminal proceedings against the president.

Confederation of African Football president Issa Hayatou has taken temporary charge of Fifa after football’s world governing body suspended its president Sepp Blatter. The Cameroonian is FIFA’s most senior vice-president and has been in the role since 1992.

“I will serve only on an interim basis,” Hayatou said in a statement.

Meanwhile, ex-FIFA vice-president Chung Mong-joon has been banned for six years.

Sepp Blatter is accused of signing an ‘unfavourable’ contract to football’s governing body and making a disloyal payment to UEFA president Michel Platini.

Allegations against Blatter relate to a 2005 TV rights deal, with the ethics committee expected to make a decision this week.

The FIFA president denies any wrongdoing and a statement from his legal representatives said he had not been made aware of the decision.

The committee is also examining a payment of two million Swiss francs Michel Platini received in 2011, Platini has provided information but stated he has done so as a witness.

Despite winning a fifth consecutive FIFA presidential election in May, Blatter announced he was stepping down in June following claims of corruption. He is due to finish his term at a FIFA extraordinary congress on 26th February.
